As an early adopter to most great ideas and innovations which will make my teaching life easier and more exciting, I was extremely keen to get the BYOD up and working in all my classes. I had already been using Office365 in my previous school, so this was not going to be a problem. I had spent the last 18 months with students collaborating in their writing, reading and even maths.
We were well on our way along the SAMR model and I was feeling very proud of myself.
Now...... I have come to a new school which is just beginning the Office365 journey, there are ten times more students, and less than half have turned up with BYOD. Added to that the class desktops seem to be uncooperative and will not just go to OneNote without a multitude of hoops to jump through to get started. The lesson is quite often 15 minutes in before we even get started.
Extremely frustrating and teaching me patience and chill. Not something I am use to as an early adopter.
I love to try new things and see if they work. Being in such a large school with only one IT guy means that the power and permission to access sites lies in his hands. Planning lessons around using OneNote is quickly fading as the accessibility and innovation is so limited.
This is going to require deep yoga breathes and calming my mind.
